Orayta took home a dramatic extra-innings comeback win, while Minny Binny’s and YLP led a tight pack scrambling to catch Rebbishe Vikings at the top of the leaderboard, in the FM Home Loans Israel Softball League.
Orayta trailed YLP 4-0, before exploding for 7 runs in the top of the fourth. The teams then traided blows in a see-saw battle the rest of the way, and ended regulation knotted at 10 apiece, sending the game into extra innings.
In the top of the eighth, after Zachary Magerman and Max Weiser got aboard, Aidan Wild hit a clutch two run triple, to give Orayta the lead. Sammy Green then completed the damage, with a sacrifice fly to score Wild. In the bottom of the eighth, with just one out, YLP put runners on first and second, bringing the tying run to the plate - but Orayta third baseman Boaz Kahn and second baseman Noam Traum turned a game-ending double play, to seal the win.
Rebbishe Vikings retained pole position in the pennant race, and did so in convincing fasion, heaping on 11 runs in the 4th, en route to a 17-3 victory over SushiFuze. SushiFuze find themselves in the middle of a crowded playoff race, while the supposed sea-faring streimel-wearing Swedish spiritualists seized the summit.
YLP made up ground in their second game of the week, with several early salvos accumulating 15 runs in the first four innings against Big Red. Big Red recovered nicely, blanking the vaunted YLP attack the rest of the way, but it was not enough, as YLP won 15-5.
In an unusual development, Big Red completed a heroic comeback - just - as their 10 run final rally resulted in a rare tie. The 16-16 stalemate with Mini Binny’s leaves league observers even more perplexed by the dizzying playoff scenario permutations and combinations, heading into the Early Division’s final regular season weekend.
Meanwhile, Fishman was able to keep pace with the Rebbishe Vikings early, but eventualy the Vikings triumphed by a 28-9 score, while D.P. Fox’s used a consistent attack and good defense to defeat Platinum Realty 19-6.
